Research Interests My research is inherently interdisciplinary and emerges at the intersection of three core disciplines: strategic management, organizational behavior, and technology management. Against this backdrop, I examine how technological change transforms organizations, value chains, and industries, and how it may or may not lead to sustainable competitive advantage for some firms. In doing so, I explore innovation in both established and entrepreneurial firms and at multiple levels of analysis (network, inter-firm, organizational, and individual). Thus far, most of my work focuses on the socio-cognitive processes that actors engage in as they make sense of new technology and how this, in turn, shapes collective behavior. In most cases I explore these issues through in-depth, longitudinal case studies and believe strongly in the power of both qualitative and quantitative techniques. Among other projects presently underway, I am currently studying technological change and industry evolution in the context of electronic personal health records and the application of RFID technology for improving process performance in high intensity healthcare establishments. |
